Rarely a week goes by that we don’t receive a handful of letters asking about how to create classic 1940s hairstyles, including any which would be appropriate for swing dancing. So we dug out our old magazines and catalogs from the 1940s and studied them to see which styles were most popular during that decade.
Then we consulted the experts in period hairstyling at the Make-up Designory in Toluca Lake, California. Yvonne Hawker, Theatrical Hair Instructor, will explain how you can create these great ’40s hairstyles and what accessories and tools you’ll need on hand to get the best results.
On each page, we’ll show you a large image of the basic hairstyle, with variations on that style in thumbnails. Then, below each main photograph, Yvonne will explain how to create the hairstyle.
